These are casual recordings with an emphasis on instrumentals, recorded here at my desk beside the
fireplace. I decided that sometimes I'll set aside my PDA full of lyrics and just play some music, words or no.
Hopefully this becomes a regular thing. If you're interested in the music you've heard in the worship band I'm in, recordings and scores for
many of these are easy to find on my hymnbook website .
Besides my stringed instruments, a cheap mixer, mikes, recording interface, Noteworthy Composer and a
cheap Yamaha PSR keyboard provide me enough of a "scratchpad" for these tunes.
2010
- What A Friend We Have In Jesus instrumental version
- It Came Upon A Midnight Clear
I got these two songs in the space of a couple hours.
- Satisfied : As John Piper often says, God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in him.
- Death Where Is Your Sting : a late Easter song.
- When Doomsday Comes : Wow, this is an old live binaural-direct-to-Minidisc recording I made in Faith Lutheran's former building years ago. It's unpolished but very intense!
- When Doomsday Comes : Wow, this is an old live binaural-direct-to-Minidisc recording I made in Faith Lutheran's former building years ago. It's unpolished but very intense!
- The Courage of the Morning : Another one from the same time period. Forgot how much I like this one, will have to re-learn it!
- "This Side Of the Water" : wrote this after reading David Wilkerson's sermon "Right Song, Wrong Side" 1/1/2010
2009
- "When The Wind Blows Out of the North": Been playing this for years, one of my favorite acoustic jams. 12/5/2009
- Were You There : Improved my fingerstyle arrangement, no vocal 11/19/2009
- "Harmonica" : Nothing to do with the blues harp, this is just a guitar instrumental with harmonics that I've been playing for years. 11/19/2009
- "Duet One" , an old jam I used to play a lot, taking a whack at a steel-string/classical duet. Needs work. 11/17/2009.
- "Book of Life": I wanted a faster and heavier version of this song I wrote in 2002, this works for me. Yeah, not an instrumental,
but one of the better demos I've done, so, hey, it's my website, I can break my own rules. 11/7/2009
- Were You There : traditional tune, working on a fingerstyle arrangment - still under development, stay tuned. 11/3/2009
- "329", Nylon version: a favorite fingerstyle instrumental I wrote, attempted on my Dauphin classical. 10/27/2009
- "Dominants" : Noodling on the dominant chord, mostly. 10/19/2009
- "Forever Mine": A melody I tried to arrange for guitar but ended up being so much better on piano. I like the faux "soprano sax"
lead on my cheap keyboard, kinda of a "Stevie-Wonder-harmonica" vibe.2/4/2009
- Lord As I Leave: when I go home from work my brain is usually pretty wired. 2/18/2008
- "New Year's Day": No, not the U2 song. I literally got up Jan. 1 2007 and this melody was waiting inside my mandolin. By lunchtime I
had written it down and recorded this demo, after which we all went sledding at Pioneer's Park because there had been an awesome snowfall.
- Gaudete : traditional Christmas song, popularized by SteelEye Span. Ignore my slaughtering
the Latin pronunciation.
